A couple of weekends back I made it out to the Jacob Javitz Center to catch the New York Auto Show. It was the first time I’ve attended a “major” auto show and it was pretty impressive. Cars, trucks, SUVs, and all kinds of assorted automobiles everywhere. That at marketers and PR folk galore; not to mention the product brochures!
I had very little that I wanted to see. I was simply hoping to see some “pretty cars”. I did get to see the 2005/2006 version of my Mitsubishi Montero. To be honest, not much has really changed except it can now come with a DVD video entertainment system.
The highlight of the show? Easy. The 2006 Dodge Charger SRT8. Not that I’m going to rush out and buy one, especially since the gas mileage is horrific. I suppose when you buy a muscle car like this you’re not exactly keeping gas mileage as your highest concern.
The low point of the show? Easy. The fact that I couldn’t find a single Smart car. You can’t turn a corner in Europe without seeing a Smart ForTwo auto. They’re so funny looking, but nothing beats the Smart Roadster. It’s a great looking sports car with fun lines and a smooth ride. Unfortunately, DaimlerChrysler is mismanaging the brand and it’s cars. Hopefully they’re clean up their act and bring the Smart cars stateside sometime soon!
